I am looking for a good intractive map (or just a good map) that I can see my hotel the Plantation Village and everything that is all around it. I am wondering what resturants, bars and shops are close by.

Welcome chelsmom - I think you will find everything you are looking for on our highly detailed Maps

Plantana is located at C-6 on our Seven Mile Beach Map.

Hey Joe,

Here's an idea. Can you make a list of clickable links of the approved lodgings and restaurants that would open up Google Earth with the clicked item as the center of the map? Basically, the links would be to a Google Earth webpage with the recommended business' latitude and longitude.

That'd be cool. And, it'd keep your tech guys busy for a bit.

divesergeant - idea That's an excellent idea, thank you.

We have a couple of things ahead of updating our maps but now that I am past a gruesome deadline I can focus 100% on our website for at least the next few weeks. Our new Menu Search is finally completed and we are currently working on a site-wide reservation system so people can book their activities, tours, dining, etc. and take advantage of all Activity Guide discounts by filling out a simple form.

I've been mulling around a lot of different ways to improve and make our maps more interactive and yours is one of the best suggestions I've heard so far. Thank you again for thinking of ways to improve our website. Very Happy

divesergeant - One more thing, can you give me a link to something similar? It doesn't have to be exactly what you are describing or even for the Cayman Islands; just a link to some site that has already set up something similar to what you are describing.

That would be a big help.

Hi Joe,

Hmmm. I'll try to find an example.

I just tried Google Earth, but can't find a URL location indicator. But, I think I remember seeing someone's post on CAG a year or so ago where they had made a specific google earth image appear to show the location of a hotel along SMB in relation to the harbour.

Of course, that's pretty darn vague, isn't it! I'll try to narrow it down a bit more.

More to follow.

thanks for the link. I had first used a interactive map when we were researching our trip to Vegas. Came in very handy.
Also, is the Plantana the same as Plantation Village Beach Resort?

Hi Joe,

OK, I went to Google Earth, zoomed in on what I wanted, clicked the "File" menu and clicked "View in Google Maps" to get this URL, which I'll post here in both original URL and named-by-me versions...

Hopefully it'll show a satellite view of Kaibo and will be a link that allows zooming in and out and panning back and forth and plotting roads and overlays and measuring distances and laying out driving directions and such...

Hopefully I'll learn to not type run-on sentences, too, but lets not get carried away here!

Ummm, I think that worked. Now, I sure hope that really is Kaibo, or I'll be a bit embarrassed! Embarassed

I imagine there is a way to have a large satellite view with icons over the approved establishments that you can click on for pictures and details. But sometimes I seem to be an analog guy in a digital world so I haven't gotten that figured out yet!

divesergeant - The link to the Kaibo map is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you! I think this is going to be a lot of work but well worth it.

Thanks Joe!

I notice on Google Earth it'll have a link that you can click to get pictures of the area, but they are often mis-placed or mis-identified. Too bad. At least on Google Maps they don't seem to have these links. With your better local knowledge it can be much more accurate, as well as giving folks a perfect view of where everything is inrelation to everything else.

I think you're right about it being a bunch of work; I'll make it up to you with a rum punch (or two!) next time we're there! If Caymantwins is there at the same time, I'd offer to buy mudslides except for the ensuing shortage of rum that would occur. BouncingLaugh

divesergeant - How did you get it to save just that part of the image? When you clicked the "File" menu and clicked "View in Google Maps" to get this URL, how did you save it? Can you only save that particular URL or can you save the location, as to incorporate into a larger map?

Thanks so much for all your help.

Hi Joe,

What I did was zoom in on the Google Earth program to where I wanted to be. I then clicked under the "View" menu the "View Image Google Map" option. Once the Google Map website came up, I copied the URL from the URL address bar and pasted it onto the post. I didn't actually save the image anywhere, but rather put a link to it on the posting.
