I am learning so much from this site! Thank you to all. My family of four myself, husband, 15 yr old daughter and 18 yr. old son( his 18 b-day will be while we are on island!) 2weeks, in a villa, lagoon side, rum point.- we chose rum point for quiet. BUT Im afraid of missing out on fun things to do. It takes a week to get familiar and comfortable in a new place, thats why we are coming for 2 weeks. I want a nice balance of relaxing and fun at rum point and the house, but not taking a whole week to find amazing things to do, so that we dont have time to " do it again". Can anyone relate? We LOVE to fish, snorkle, and boat. we are renting a boat for the second week, so that we can explore etc. I would love to do a couple "touristy "things. Boatswains, stingray city, parasail. Can anyone please help with maybe a PLAN so that we dont get sucked into just staying at "our place", and then regret it, once we start experiencing everything. I know there is so much to do. This is a once in a lifetime trip for my family( hopefully not) but we are treating it as if it were. Thanks for listening, and I welcome HELP!!!!!

Rum Point is a great area and you should have a lot of fun, even without a plan! If you have never tried scuba diving, I would highly recommend a "resort course" so that you can try it. It is a few hours of instruction and pool work, then a nice dive with a qualified instructor. The course also allows you to dive with an instructor for the next week or so if you decide you enjoy it.

In the past I have also liked to rent bicycles and ride around the island. We usually stay on SMB and ride to Rum Point for the afternoon, then either ride home before dark or have someone with a car pick us up (when we go, there is a group of 22, so someone is always around!).

Another fun thing to do is to go horseback riding on the beach. Check the Activity Guide for coupons and recommended outfitters. We did this once a few years ago and had a blast.

The "touristy" things are always fun too. Stingray City is a "must do" in my book. Only on GCM can you have an adventure like that. Get a video of the trip too...it is almost as much fun to see your friend's reactions at home!!!

The botanical gardens, Pirates Caves, and Pedro St. James are all good land activities if you get too much sun, sand, or water. The Turtle Farm is another good Cayman only activity. Try to go before the cruise ships come in the morning, after they leave in the afternoon, or on a Sunday. You don't want to spend your vacation standing in line! After the farm tour, head over to the Cracked Conch and the dive shop below it. Sit out by the bar, order a Red Stripe, and some grouper quesadillas...ahhh...oh, man I can't wait to get back!!!

Relax and Enjoy!

Thank you Joe and LaylaDog! Your response is sooooo appreciated. Thank you for pointing out the must do list to print out. I am learning how to use a computer other than simple emails- so I feel stupid for not understanding this site completely, but you're helping! LaylaDog- awesome ideas, I will check them out, make choices and start making my printable MUST DO list. A million thank yous to you both. Now I have a PLAN!!!!!!!I hope someday to be able to contribute and help others.

We spent a month on the island last summer. We drove to Rum Point alit we loved it so much.We would hate staying on SMB but enjoyed the beach there alot and Smiths Cove is so beautiful. Our kids loved Grand Cayman even when all we did was hang out,it is the greatest plkace in the world to bring your family.I can't wait to return.

If we go back we will stay much closer to Rum Point this time.I personally wouldn't think a plan was necessary to enjoy or fully experience Grand Cayman as it is just tiny and easy to get a feel fot the place. We loved hanging out at Morrit's too out non Eat End,we loved everywhere and everyhting.

GC was the most best place to relax and do touristy stuff and relax and enjoy everything about it, and relax. You have to try the blue iguana drink at Rum Point's Beach Bar!!! Very tasty. Also if you like horses, try the horseback riding along the beach AND THEN you swim on bareback. WOW. That was great! I warn you now if you don't ride horses to often our backsides were a little sore afterwards, but the rum helped eased it. Also try the kayak eco tour. Gotta eat at The Lobster pot (maybe romantic for just you and hubby), eat at Paradise Restuarant---try their fish cayman style with peas and rice(awesome spicy). Go to mail your post cards at Hell P.O. and visit hell. MUST get a rental car (Andy's Rental Cars) and drive the island, oh can't forget to visit the botanical gardens. And definitely Pirate's Cave. Don't forget the snorkeling boat cruises and swimming with the stingrays at stingray city---don't forget to kiss ine for good luck (my husband did it too!) Don't forget your underwater camera! So much fun....I will see you again someday GC....

shelly - reading it in context, I'm assuming that it's "kiss One for good luck" meaning kiss a stingray for good luck.

That's my guess at least. Smile

Every other vacation is planned, I have some detailed spreadsheets for past disney trips.

Our trip to grand cayman had NO PLAN. I had a list of restaurants, a cow,e ideas. We decided at breakfast what the day held. It was fantastic.

Tomm--sounds like a good plan.

I usually think about 1 or 2 special things that I want to be sure and do each year and the rest is just spontaneous.....or not----usually we are just lying on the beach and enjoying ourselves.

Take at least a basic underwater digital camera (if you want a better one while there, you can rent from Cathy Church). Learn how to use its special features and settings. Go the the Blowholes near Sunset and take photos with and without the sunset setting.

Go down to Kaibo and check out "starfish beach." Amble through the entire Botanical Gardens -- keep an eye out for iguanas (and the flowers are pretty). go to the north entrance to the Mastic Trail and look for large poinsettias and parrots near the houses (we did not find the trail very interesting, but we may have given up too soon).

I'm thinking about tyring one of the "tourist trap" expensive attractions on my next visit -- either the Atlantis sub, or the Pirate's cruise -- a lot of GC visitor sites are "small" and charming and we've so far found them to be enough.

Eat a pattie or two -- you might become addicted.

For me, a typical day is "get up, go to the pool, eat lunch, go to the beach (snorkel) -- or sightseeing (mabye sightseeing in the morning and then beach -- try a lot of different ones), eat, go to the hammock. "This is the Life!"

Life is good! Coffee on the porch, relaxing by the pool.....seeing longtime firends....watching that wonderful, beautifull sea....walk on the beach....life is good...Just bought my ticket last night for October! My trips are rather laid back and that's what I like. I'm over the shopping, etc. I love a nice restaurant but like a cozy meal at the condo too! This is probably my 33rd trip to the Island.....Life is good!!
