I though I read somewhere about church locations. Anyone know location and times of a Catholic Church on the island.

Best I can do is to give you the names and phone numbers of two Catholic churches on Grand Cayman -

Catholic Church St Ignatius

Tel: 345-949-6797

Catholic Church Christ The Redeemer

Tel: 345-949-7390

If I can find any information on their location I'll pass it along.

I will tell you that if your family does attend a church, they will be welcomed with open arms and feel like celebrities. The congregation will feel so honored that you came to worship with them.

My parents used to come to Cayman with us each year, and my Dad faithfully attended the Anglican church each year........that was one of the highlights of his week. They had even made him a permanent name tag, which he would proudly wear once or twice a year! One year, his younger sister (my aunt) and her significant other came to Cayman, as guests of my parents for a week. When they got there, they told us that they were going to get married that week, but beyond having all the documents in place, they really had no other plans......so, my Dad made a few calls and we were able to have the wedding in the Anglican church.........There were no other guests....just the four of us in the family (my Mom and Dad and my husband and myself).....then we went out for a wedding lunch up at the brand new Hemmingway's restaurant, followed by an afternoon of snorkeling somewhere. That has always been one of my favorite Cayman memories.......Mom and I sneaking around the condo property that morning, picking enough hibiscus to put into a bouquet for the bride.

Anyway, it is a fun experience to attend church on your Cayman vacation. I can't say that I've done it since my Dad has stopped coming, but the few times that I went with him, it was memorable.

What a lovely memory! I've might have known this, but forgotten. When was the first time that you came to Cayman?

Shelly :-)

Hi Shelly,

We haven't been coming quite as long as you have, but our first year was in 1984. We stayed in the old Royal Palms Hotel and fell in love with Cayman instantly.......bought our timeshare that week and haven't missed a year since! I think the wedding I tell about took place in 1986.

Do you remember Merren's grocery store? That's where we bought the ribbon for the bride's bouquet.......if I remember correctly, it was the only grocery store in the 7 Mile Beach area at that time.

We stayed at the Royal Palms too the first time that we came, but I think it was called LaFontaine then. We loved it too. In 1972, we came back with our kids who were 1 and 4 and stayed at Seascape a duplex type thing right on the beach. (Under $40 a day for a 2 BR with a maid included who cleaned, did our laundry and fixed our lunch). After that we stayed at Pan Cayman for a couple of years and then for about 30 years we stayed at Victoria House.

Of course I remember Merrens. Our son used to loved to pick out the weird flavors of soft drinks and juices there.

I'm amazed that your complex is that old--was it pretty new when you bought in?

ah---memories--aren't they grand?

Shelly :-)

Shelly,

I'm not really sure when Plantation Village was built, but I know that the timeshares were first sold in 1983 or 1984. At that time, only 20 of the 70 units were timeshares.....the rest were privately owned. Now 46 of the 70 units are timeshares.

Anyway, as old as the place may be, it's all "new" now, thanks to the extensive remodeling after Hurricane Ivan!

We have been to the Caymans twice, and have gone to the Catholic Church with the school. I don't have an address, but please DON'T MISS services, you will love it! It is something you will cherish for ever.

If you look up St. Ignatius Grand Cayman they have a website too. It is a beautiful church. Our oldest lived there for 3 years and we went there when we visited. If he would have stayed there and found a girl, a wedding would have been lovely there. The people are friendly and the service is so upbeat. If you do get the chance, GO!!!! It makes the rest of your trip complete, and on the most beautiful place on earth!!!! God is good for sure!

My bride went to the East End United Church last time we were down.

She said she's never felt so welcome. Even though everyone else was dressed in their Sunday best and she had on sandals, shorts and a t-shirt, the congregation was very warm and friendly.
