Where are you staying---We drank the water when we stayed in the Seven mile Beach area. Water was fine.....but some people in our family liked to have bottled water.

When we stayed in the Rum Point area we used bottled water for everything.

I've been on all sides and always just used tap water. Never a problem.

I'm guessing that ice in your drink did not come from bottled water Wink

The drinking water is completely safe to drink in Cayman - not like some other countries where it is scary. We've always drank tap water and never had a problem.

Actually I used bottled water to make ice cubes when I stayed at Kaibo

Hope they get the city water out there soon! It is really a pain lugging all that bottled water to a second floor unit

The water is safe to drink and will cause you no problems whatsoever. I just don't think it tastes very good, so we drink bottled water when we are there. But then again, coming from NY, we're spoiled.

The manager told me that the water would be fine--but suggested that we should drink bottled because we weren't used to it.

I just had an email from the water authority and they expect the city water to be out to Kaibo by the 3rd quarter of 2008---I guess that means the roads will be a mess out there. Parts were not that great last year on the northside road.

PostPosted: Mon Aug 13, 2007 8:52 am    Post subject: Is the Tap Water in Cayman safe for Pregnant Women?

I just found out that I am expecting another baby, and am going to GC in January (I will be 24 weeks pregnant) which is fine because I can snorkel and eat which is what I planned on doing anyway!! I know none of the extreme water sports or parasailing and such, but should I avoid the tap water and buy bottled? Any foods I should steer clear of? (ps the ONLY seafood I eat is lobster, I don't like fish so that isnt a problem) I think the water is my main concern, everything else I can clear with my doctor. Thanks everyone! -Kasey

Congratulations!

You do not need to be concerned about the water. If you prefer the taste of bottled, then get bottled, otherwise you can drink the tap. We have bought bottled in the past and then refilled them with tap so we could just bring bottles down to the beach with us. Never had a problem in the several years we've been going to Cayman.

Watch the seafood a bit (which any pregnant woman knows). You don't want to have too much in one week. Otherwise, enjoy the non-alcoholic bevies and relax before life gets REALLY busy again! Wink

Congratulations Kaseys412. My wife and I are going to GC next month 9/15 - 9/20 to celebrate our 7 yr anniversary and to relax before our first child is born (due January 17th, 2008). I found this site a couple of years ago before a cruise stop. I started researching a vacation we can take and feel comfortable about our surroundings. I was a little concerned about traveling out of the country with a pregnant wife but I feel more comfortable after reading this site. I think GC is a great choice for us. We did the stingray thing last time there and we are thinking we might just sit on the beach and ready baby books this time. We will probably rent a car to see the island one day. My wife and I love to go do new things but I'm a little cautious about getting on a bumpy boat ride or doing anything crazy this time. We will probably just snorkel off the beach. I felt the baby kick for the first time night. He/She must have heard me talking about going to GC!

Congratulations to both kaseys412 and mlester11!!! Very Happy

Just wanted to share, when I was about 5.5 months along with my daughter my husband, 7 year old son and I went on a trip to the Caribbean thinking it might be the last big vacation we took for a while. It was a great time we spent together. Everyone was so nice to us and especially me! The best advice my doctor gave me was to drink plenty of water. After a few days, I had a some swelling in my ankles due to the salty food I ate, but that's the only downside I remember.

I have a really cool memory while snorkelling that trip that might sound weird to some...I remember feeling my little girl turning around and kicking in my tummy while I was swimming - like she wanted in on the fun too. That 'baby' just started high school last week - so enjoy and soak up this special time together, they grow up fast!

Happy that you mentioned the ankle swelling gardengirl.

I have that every time we go to the Caribbean.........I was told it's probably more from the sea water and humidity as opposed to sitting on the flight, since I'm up and standing and exercising my legs and feet.

Kaseys412,

I found a remedy for the ankle and finger swelling. I either buy lemons at the store or pack one of the real lemon containers that looks like a lemon........if I use a lemon, I squeeze the juice of one lemon in a glass of water daily and on the real lemon container, it tells you how much equals one lemon. Learned this trick from someone a while back and it does work. With pregnancy, you're naturally probably going to have some swelling but the lemon will help. It's a natural diuretic.

Enjoy your trip.

Thanks so much for the replies! I'm really excited to go but at the same time, it will be so hard leaving our 3 year old behind for a week (he'll be staying with grandma, a vacation in itself lol!) But we've never left him before, on the other hand we both know that we deserve a nice trip together before life gets a little more hectic this spring. I already talked to my doc and she said there is no reason whatsoever I couldn't go and snorkel and all that fun stuff. I'll definitely keep the lemon trick in mind also!! Thanks ~Kasey

Be sure to let us know when the new addition arrives.

Your son will do just fine.........we keep our grandchildren all the time....they usually don't get too homesick until they see their parents. I'm sure Gramma and Grandpa will do just fine.........it's a special treat to have the grandchildren here..........and they do have a good time.

Enjoy your time together. You are blessed to have someone who will take wonderful care of your son.

Concentrate on relaxing............. band1 Parrot Snorkel rockbed dancing

Now I know they say the water is safe to drink but I always drink bottled water. I dont drink it because I am snotty but because I live in a farm area where pesticides have been pumped into the ground and because there is a lab close by that has been questionable about their chemical disposal practices. So tell me, how is the water, really?
