Just thought I'd throw this out there........I believe I read in a guide book to be cautious because of petty theft on GC..........I don't know of any place that is 100% crime free, but was wondering if we have to take extra caution when we're out and about on the island, visiting the different beaches. I know another island we visited, people would break into the cars and steal things......is this a problem on GC? read Evil

knees,

Whoo-hooo, you're getting close to vacation time!

We've never had a problem on any of the Cayman Islands. I believe it is the safest Caribbean / Central American destination we've been to.

Still, common sense should prevail and you should take reasonable precautions such as locking your apartment doors, locking your vehicle, etc.

I think that as long as you don't give someone a target of opportunity you should be fine.

See ya,

DS

DS,

Thanks. Naturally anything of value will be around our necks in a waterproof case and my camera will be on my wrist. Just was curious if people's locked trunks got broken into.

Yes, we are getting close.............all the toiletries, lotions, etc. are in zip lock bags ready to be packed. Whoo hoo! band1 UpsideDown

Can you tell I'm eager for our time to be here......... Jump

I've also read that GC is very safe and was surprised when I read that article.

We've never had a problem in Cayman, but there are thefts etc. So just use the same precautions you would use anywhere else and do as divesergeant says. Don't leave things on the beach and walk away.

Last year when we were in Cayman at the Kaibo Yacht club someone left their laptop out at the pool overnight and guess what--it was still there in the morning. Amazing!! Of course, it's not too busy over there, but still!

Have a great trip--I remember when you first logged on here and started gathering information. Hope the forum has made your plans easier.

Shelly :-)

Shelly,

You have a good memory and yes, the forum has made things a lot easier for me, thanks to all of you. ThumbsUp clapping

As far as leaving things on the beach.......I'm assuming it's valuables and not such minor things as towels, etc. The only thing we would have locked in the trunk are our bags for snorkel equipment and a cooler with food and beverages.

Oh, it's amazing that laptop was still there. Wow! Shock

Actually I just remembered that the laptop incident happened the year before at Discovery Point, which is a much busier area.

We usually leave our towels out on chairs. And I've never had a car broken into. But you know it's the world and you can never be absolutely sure of anything these days. What else could you do with it--definitely don't leave anything visible, just like in the states or anywhere else you travel.

I don't remember, where are you going to stay?

Shelly :-)

The Caymans aren't anything like Bonnaire which does have a nasty theft issue with car break-ins. The Bonnaire government doesn't do anything to stop it and that is why it is so bad.

From our trips to Cayman, I have always been very impressed with the lack of crime. Obviously don't invite theft by being careless, but we were able to dive without any fear that our gear bags would be stollen while we were in the water. People in the Caymans seem to be very nice and honest.

Hi jomika and

I merged your post to this topic, which should answer your questions about crime in the Cayman Islands. You will find the general consensus to be that the Cayman Islands have the lowest crime rate in the Caribbean and far less crime than any major US city.

The best restaurants near Rum Point are:

• Lighthouse

• Portofino

• Kaibo Beach Bar

• Kaibo Upstairs

Notes:
1.) Kaibo also offers many special nightly events, which you will find in Activity Guide magazine when you arrive or you can view the current issue of Activity Guide online here:

2.) The list is in random order. You will find many reviews, photos and videos in each restaurant's respective topic in our restaurant forum.

There are also many must do restaurants that are a half hour or more drive from where you are staying. If you have not already rented a vehicle, you will receive generous discounts from Andy's and Economy for being an Activity Guide member. Given the relative remoteness of your accommodations, I strongly encourage you to rent a vehicle to see all of the best sites, attractions, activities and restaurants on Grand Cayman.

If this all sounds a bit complicated, it's really not. We have many features here at our forums designed to facilitate your vacation planning, such as our handy must do feature where you can create your own personal must do list of everything that appeals to you as you browse through the topics. Then just print it out before you leave and it will act as a handy personal reference guide to save you valuable vacation time. Wink

If you require help or instruction pertaining to your personal must do list you will find all of the details HERE

To find more highly recommended restaurants; as well as activities, attractions and much more, visit our Must Do List Topic

For extended reading and more information about the most highly valued Cayman Islands restaurants in all categories, see our Restaurant Guide at our main website.

You can also view the actual menus—complete with descriptions and prices at our main website
Menu Search.

You may also want to read our Dining Information page at our main website for additional information; you may also want to visit our General Dining Information page at our main website for additional information, as well as our Dining Information for quick easy access to a directory of all of our most highly valued dining establishments, including links to their dedicated pages, where you can see even more information, photos and even make your reservations online to receive your discount and/or special seating. No credit card is required but we ask that you inform the establishment should you have a need to cancel or change your dates.

For many of the more popular restaurants like the Wharf, Pappagallo, Lighthouse and any others that are very important to you, use our online reservation form—either in our Menu Search or at the restaurant's dedicated page within our main website. You can also make email reservations or inquires right here in their forum topics, all located in our Restaurant forum. Most of our recommended dining establishments provide you with either a discount, preferential seating or both; just for booking ahead through any of our reservation resources so they can see that you are an Activity Guide member.

Note:
Always make your reservations directly with the establishments and ask for any current Activity Guide discounts or specials.

Have a wonderful vacation!
