Dear Charlie and Shanny - congratulations on your upcoming relocation and more importantly congrats on stepping out from the lurking shadows and for making your first post!

The best way to obtain a nanny is to find out from your co-workers whether they have one they can recommend or from your human resources department. Because you will probably be coming here on a work permit you may want to check with your human resources manager as to whether you will qualify to hire a nanny on work permit or not some people get it approved some don't so be sure to find out.

There are always helpers available and one way to find one is to place an ad in one of the local papers expressing what you are seeking. If you don't want to take out a work permit then you will need to make sure the ad specifies you are seeking either a Caymanian, Status Holder or Legal Resident to fill the position. Nanny's and "helpers" vary in cost but plan on a minum of CI$250 to $300 per week more if you want a good one and they are working 40 hour work week.

There are several early education centers that can take your 3 year old but you will want to be sure to make sure about enrollment availability.

I don't have young ones any more but I can check around at my office and see if any one has anybody they can recommend.

What field will you all be working in and what area are you looking at for housing and what type of housing and what is your price range? All of these are factors to consider. If you are going to be here awhile and are in a position to do so, purchasing a house or condo is an excellent investment right now.

Best of luck and let me know more details and I'll see what I can do to help.

Cindy Lou

hi cindy lou

thanks for your reply

i will be running my own international computing business, so unfortunately i have no co-workers or human rescouce dept.

if you can come up with any recomendations via your connections i would really appreciate it.

in terms of housing we have a dream of living on the beach as close to smb as possible, but would go as fas as cayman kai to find the right house.

3-4 bedroom would be ideal at a price of around 5k per month.

speak soon

rgds,

charlie

charlie - what an exciting adventure for you and your family! We have a recommended real estate firm here on the forum and I'd do the "click here" button but all the other Mods and members are aware that I am technologically challenged Rolling Eyes Razz anyhow if you go to the section of the forum referencing "Investments" there is a section for Real Estate and there is a search feature there or contact the link and they should help you out with rentals. You should be able to find what you are looking for in that price range pretty much all over it will be more about you will get better rates the further from central 7MB you go.

I'll check around the office here to see if any one has some Nanny connections for you.

I recommend highly that you get your rental in place before you decide what you are going to move and not move as many rentals come completely furnished down to the linens and that will save you a considerable sum in moving expenses. Whatever you do plan on moving, insure it! Make sure it is insured! I'm in a major battle right now because I signed for insurance but my carrier claims I didn't (but there's my name on the contract with it Rolling Eyes ) so in the $15,000 worth of camera equipment and other items that went missing they are trying to offer me $72 as compensation Rolling Eyes

Best of luck on your relocation!

Cindy Lou

Hi Are you still on the Island??? I just read your post from a few years ago re saying you would ask round your office re any one that can help re a nanny situation. I was wondering if you are still on the Island if you could help out this situation in recommending anyone that you may know that would be interested in this.....What we really needs to do is build up a bank of people say 2 or 3, who she can use at a weekend, on days through the week etc so if for example I'm off for a week in October or at Christmas. Or even just one person if they are just happy to have the odd weeks work here and there and the odd weekend etc. Maybe 1 person cant do the full week but 1 person may be able to do 3 days, another person may be able to do 2 days and another the other days if you know what I mean. It would mean then she may have a 2 or 3 different nannies to use for weekends so not one person is working all the time at a weekend, if you know what I mean it could mean that you may end up only working 1 weekend a month or even just 1 or 2 Sundays or Saturdays a month.
