I can't seem to find the info I need, so here goes....

EVERY time I fly, my ears ache for a week or two afterward. I always wear earplanes and usually take a sinus pill before flying.

I am guessing that if I can't take the pressure changes in an airplane, I would not be allowed to dive??

If I COULD dive, what is the deepest you would recommend?

Thanks.

Papa - My wife wears earplanes when she flies and normally does pretty well. If you're still experiencing pain for a couple of days later, I would suggest a regimin Sudafed leading up to your trip and like I will state in my trip report, get thee some Clear-ease. Amazon will get it to you before you leave. Take it as directed and my ears cleared like a champ.

I was seriously going to try diving again this past trip, but couldn't fit it in.

As for depth, that is totally up to what you are comfortable with. If you're experiencing pain just from flying, though, I wouldn't necessarily recommend diving. Take this is a "been there, done that" type scenario.

Hi Papa Smoke,

If you experience ear troubles flying, I really, really suggest you consult a dive doctor before diving. Pressure under water changes much faster than does the pressure flying.

Diver's Alert Network, (google it up!) has a lot of resources, and may be able to refer you to a doctor in your area. Some of the DAN website and info may be for members only, though. (PM me if that is the case, and I may be able to help out a bit!)

In short, diving may well be fine for you, but don't risk your ears without consulting a medical specialist.

DS
