I would like any advice on moving to & working for a dive operation in the Caymans. I'm in the process of getting my Divemaster certification, (NAUI) & my Capt's License, (USCG-6pack). Will these certifications be enough to get started. I have been diving for 28 years & love working with people.

No, they are not enough to get started. The Cayman Is. are completely dominated by PADI. NAUI may well have tougher (better) courses, but it is hardly visible at all here. You must get PADI certifications.

JUst having a PADI DM cert. is likely not enough to find employment. Everyone, including dive operators and dive equipment stores, will expect you to have a PADI Instructor certification.

Why do you need to be an instructor? Do all the divemasters there have to teach too?

Really, just because there are so many Instructors around that the employers do not have to bother hiring someone without that qualification. Joe, am I right or wrong on this?

Alex, Im not disagreein with you, just wondering why they have to be an insturctor if they do not need to "instruct".

From what I understand, employers tend to hire the "most experienced" applicants and, since they have lots of applicants, they end up hiring the instructors. That makes sense in dive ops, where everyone is expected to teach. It makes a lot less sense in stores, but that seems to be the attitude there too.
