My wife and I certified in '93 and dove the Caymans in '94. We dove local lakes here in MO. and in Hawaii and the Bahamas over the next few years until I was in an auto accident. My resulting injuries prevented me from diving for several years.

We are coming to the Caymans again next month for our anniversary and would like to make a few dives again. However, the long layoff has me a bit rusty and my wife nervous.

Do any of the operators offer a "refresher" course or dive that could be done when we get there? We would of course book some dives with them too.

Also, do any of the dive shops rent digital underwater cameras? We have a 35mm camera we have used in the past and it works fine. But being able to review info and delete the unwanted shots is so appealing. I could get a housing for my Nikon digital camera but if I could rent a decent camera while there, it would save the hassle of extra baggage.

Thanks for this awesome site!

Craig

Hi Craig, Welcome!!

All the recommended Dive Ops offer refresher courses. Neptune's is highly recommended and Don Fosters has a great facility with an on-site pool and a comfortable shore dive to get you back into the swing of things. You can rent digital cameras from them as well, or from Cathy Church ....

Check in the Diving Forum for contact information to all the Dive Ops.

Have fun!!

Hello Craig,

Welcome to the CAG forums handshake , and welcome back to diving! Divegirl

If you'll be out toward the East End, Ocean Frontiers also rents U/W cameras at their shop. When we were there, they had some nice Olympus models in Olympus U/W housings.

The folks at OF are very accomodating and make you feel comfortable and at home.

Most importantly, don't forget to take lots of pics and post a trip report when you return!

John

Craig,

My husband is certified, but hadn't logged a dive for a few years until this past March. He had a refresher with Casey at Neptune's and they were awesome!!! He said it all came right back and it was nice to go with a smaller operation for more one on one attention. Our 17 year old nephew went with him and logged his first two dives ever with them. Top notch dive operation!!!

He highly recommends Neptunes!

divesergeant - As you know we support Ocean Frontier's but I would not recommend spending $110 per dive to perform refresher skills.

In this case I agree with the others; Neptunes or Off the Wall would probably be the best bet for doing it on a boat. If cost is the main consideration, I'd recommend doing the refresher dives from shore with Don Fosters or Eden Rock and then going on the boat dives and taking pictures.

You will find by far the best prices and largest selection of camera rentals at Cathy Church and I would highly recommend taking a lesson with Cathy.

Be sure to use the coupons in Activity Guide. Wink
