Hi a_y_ ....

There's sharks, but not on any "Land Based Tours and Attractions" ...which is where you posted your question.... I think they may have "Landshark" beer now but as for "Land Sharks", haven't seen any ....

Saw a large brown shark last week at radar reef. He ignored us, but still frightened my daughter. I told her they generally didn't eat people, but she said they didn't have to..... they could cause death from a heart attack!

We've seen reef sharks at Queen's Monument. He was just curious...I was anxious to exit stage left (like Quckdraw McGraw) when I saw him and found I almost could hover above the water my adrenaline rush was so big!!! Embarassed

Day before yesterday I saw one and I of course did everything they tell you not to. Panicked, backpedaled, and it noticed all my thrashing about and started swimming up toward me. Ack! Did a 180 and found out how fast I could swim (away) which was not very. It didn't follow me & now I wish I would have been calmer and hung out a bit. Smile

Cool, where were you?

We were just in Providenciales, and let me tell you, we had an 8 foot, black tipped reef shark circle our group twice, eyeballing us, and you never saw people swim away quicker once he skeedaddled. I seem to be a shark attractant, or maybe that is hubby.

So all you snorkeling with me this trip, BEWARE!

Ha..eau de shark, I like that!

We are staying at Discovery Point on 7 mi. It was straight out past the reef a little ways in an area of large slabs of rocks forming kind of a semi circle. It was a nurse shark about 6-7' and was on the floor. My brain was trying to tell me it was a nurse shark (because I saw a pic at the condo) and everything is cool, but my DNA was screaming "GO!!"

I swam straight in & had to really suppress the urge to shout to my husband what I saw but figured it'd be in really bad taste to yell "I saw a shark!" at a beach with kids playing in the waves.

Nurse shark?

You could have floated over that and had a good time studying it. I understand (we've seen quite a few nurse sharks) that they are sluggish in movement, feed and night and relatively harmless.

A sharks a shark though, and good for you on sighting one! ThumbsUp

Are there any snorkeling spots known for regular shark activity? I would actually feel beyond priviledged to say I shared the water with one! I find them so fascinating and would LOVE to see one on my trip! I'm not sure if they still so but years ago at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon they had a tank where you could snorkel with small sharks about 5 feet long or so.. granted it was a tank and not the ocean, they were still sharks and adorable ones at that! The instructor of course made it clear what should and shouldn't be done when you are in the water with them... I'm rambling.. anyway.. I sure hope I see one in January!! :-)
