Hi

Just looking for a rough approximation of how frequently ships are unable to tender at GC.

Is it once a week, couple of times a months - just trying to get a broad picture you understand ! Confused

I know we can't predict the sea or weather conditions, but it would be good to know in advance roughly what our chances are of seeing this lovely island !...particularly since we have a wedding booked there for next February - (don't worry we have a plan B if we can't make it off the cruise ship - we will fly out, and marry there a couple of months later instead !).

Are there any particular times of year when tendering is more or less likely than others ?

Many thanks if you can help at all. Smile

I'll just take a stab at answering your question, although I have no idea what the actual statistics might be. I wonder if the cruise lines would have that kind of data.

We go to Cayman every year for two weeks, at the end of Feb. and the beginning of March. At that time of year, it's always possible to have a 'Norwester or storm system hit which does cause the harbor to get too rough for anchoring and tendering in from there. BUT.....there is an ALTERNATE spot for the ships to anchor, and that is on the South Side of the island, where it is usually calm in that type of a storm. When the ships anchor on the South Side, they tender in to shore from there and are transported by little buses into Georgetown. I'd say that it's not uncommon to see that happen one or two days in the entire two week period that we are there.

Now, there are times that it's rough on both sides, in which case the ships have to bypass Cayman entirely, but I really think that doesn' t happen too often.....maybe once a month (at most.......just a guess).

Char

We took our first cruise in 05 and stopped at GC. You will want to be in the first group that gets called to tender as they usually send you to one of the places where they hold a show, you get a number and sit until they call your number. Then your taken down a few levels on the ship where you wait for the boat and they check your passport. Then you board the boat. I suggest being in the first group at 8am so you the most time possible to enjoy this wonderful island.
