Welcome to the forum!

There are many knowledgeable and friendly people here who are eager to answer all your questions and provide you with handy tips and useful information which will help make your day in Cayman relaxing, crowd-free, inexpensive and enjoyable. This message board is unique in that it is not advertiser driven, and in no way affiliated with any cruise-related companies. Hence, you will be given advice on how to avoid all the crowded places and high prices – things the majority of your fellow passengers do not know, and are not told. This is an opportunity for you to be among the 1-2% of cruise passengers who actually manage to have a reasonably priced crowd-free day experiencing all of the very best activities.

The more information you provide us with, the more helpful your replies will be. Questions like Where's the best beach or How far is it to Rum Point? doesn't really give us much to go on. For instance, many people are under the impression that Rum Point is some spectacular snorkeling spot — It is not. So if you just ask for directions without indicating that your primary reason for going there is to snorkel, you might just get directions and then find out once you go all the way out there, that you went to the wrong place if snorkeling was your primary objective.

Please take a few minutes and tell us exactly what it is you would like to do: Snorkel? Dive? Stingray City? Submarine ride? Just looking for a sandy beach with a bar and food? Have a gourmet meal? Horseback riding? Etc. It's kind of like a relationship; the more you put into it, the more you will get out of it. Wink

Bear in mind that you will likely only be on the island for about 6-8 hours once you factor in tender and docking times. If you want to do a Stingray City tour you should try to arrange the morning trip so you will have plenty of time to get back to the ship. It is better to have time after the trip to snorkel, shop, eat, drink, etc, than to have to rush back to the ship and try getting on at the last minute. It is not uncommon for people to miss the ship and have to fly to the next port at their own expense!

Booking a morning trip would leave time for maybe a meal and one other activity such as the Turtle Farm, Art/Craft galleries, Shopping, Submarine ride, Kayaking, etc, so consider carefully what you want to do the most and how much time you will have to do it.

That's where we come in. Once you have a basic idea about what kinds of things you want to do, you will receive many helpful suggestions as to the best way of doing them - how to save money, how to avoid the crowds, who gets the best reviews, etc. We are unlike most other message boards in that you can expect a reply to your questions within minutes. Stick around for a while and by the time you look at some pictures, watch a few videos and print the coupons, your questions will likely have been answered.

There is no such thing as a stupid question on this forum, so do not be afraid to ask anything. We know many of you have never been to the Cayman Islands, and for some it is the first cruise as well. No matter how ridiculous you think the question may be, chances are someone else was wondering the same thing, so always feel free to ask away. Wink

My personal incentive for all of this is to provide cruise passengers with the most current and factual information which will facilitate the most wonderful, crowd free and affordable experience imaginable in the Cayman Islands. Most of the people who simply book a tour through the cruise or one of the cruise wholesalers will typically find themselves riding around in crowded buses, waiting in lines, paying to sit on crowded beaches and going to Stingray City on boats with 100 or more people. I want everyone to have a positive experience in the Cayman Islands and tell their friends all the wonderful things about it. After following the advice on this message board it is likely that the Cayman Islands will be your favorite port of all and hopefully you will return some day soon as an overnight visitor where you can really experience the beauty, charm, culture and warm and wonderful people who make the Cayman Islands the most sought after destination in the Caribbean.

I hope you find the information here helpful and that you have the most wonderful experience imaginable during your brief visit to Grand Cayman. Please post back afterward and tell us all about it.

this will be my fiance and i first cruise. been to port cities (nassau) they all seem really crowded, and seems to all the same stuff. i've heard to go ashore and find ativities such as snorkling and sightseeing rather than book on the ship. any ideas on that. i know you have to be careful so is it worth it. also, i've been looking at things to do and there is so much. thinking we should maybe do a little snorkling and then some lunch where there's not everyone that's on the ship. i would appreciate any advice. want to make this a special trip for us. heart

Hi lanie -

The single number one must do attraction is Stingray City with Soto's Cruises or Oh Boy Charters. You will find all their contact information, photos, videos and discounts in our Stingray City forum. Wink
