I believe it's located just north of the Safehaven golf course on the North Sound. No beach at all. All ironshore. They were working on it when we were there a couple weeks ago. They offered us $75 to take a tour and listen to a time share sales talk which we didn't do.

They offered my wife a free week there if she bought a watch this week!

We stayed there and it wasn't a bad property, we now own at The Reef which is also a timeshare.

The unit we had was actually quite nice and reasonably well appointed. The master bedroom was on the small side, the ensuite was huge and the studio side was functional.

Two big negatives - half the rooms face the golf course which is behind a big black net to keep wayward balls from bouncing off the building and I would HATE to be in one of those rooms. The other big negative is that you cannot swim at the resort. It is on the North Sound and the shoreline is mostly ironshore and very shallow. You will have to drive a car to the public beach if you stay at the resort.

Hi! I actually stayed at the Grand Caymanian twice and WOULD definently stay there again! I stayed in a studio and found it to be very comfortable. The staff was very hospitable, the restaurant was very reasonably priced (and great conch fritters), they have entertainment and have some night catamaran cruises from the hotel, the room was clean, always had towels, the grounds were very floral, the pool was great for an afternoon dip and at the time, the price was unbelievable!!! Rooms also have a jacuzzi in the tub although I did not use it...and kitchen facilities. I always rent a car, so that was no problem for me- a car is absolutley necessary at this hotel. I also did not mind driving 5 minutes to the beach with the money I saved by staying there. I did not find any inconvenience by doing so as I usually pack up and cruise all around during the day anyhow.

I have also stayed at Sunshine Suites which is at the entrance way of Grand Caymanian ...much closer to 7MB and also across from the beach and I personally did not enjoy that hotel as much. Their rooms did not have a balcony....and if you wanted any fresh air you had to open your door to the public. The rooms were small and only had a bed and one chair to sit on. You had to hand carry your lounge chair across the main road(highway :-) ) to the beach, the pool in the afternoon is completely shade and the restaurant food was not as good as Grand Caymanian...plus, it was a bit more expensive.

So...not that you really asked for the comparision on the two...but, that is my hotel views on those two properties. :-)

Hi Frequent Flyer,

Thank you for the report, we are still debating. Does the studio have only a microwave or is there stove top?

I hate making general statements but what the heck, I'll do it anyway.

It is quite rare for a studio to have anything other than a microwave and many don't even have that.

The studios at the Caymanian do have a microwave, a coffee maker and a very small bar fridge but no other cooking facilities. You will have to go with a minimum of a 1 bedroom unit in order to get a kitchen that can be used for anything other than perhaps a simple breakfast.

Good luck!

Will also be in a 1 BR Thanksgiving Week. Was supposed to go last Thanksgiving but had to cancel trip due to Ivan. Will be interested to see how the resort looks in comparison to our first trip there in Feb 2003.

Hi bpaepke - Welcome to the forum. The Grand Caymanian will look about the same when you return, at least on the outside. I have not seen the inside.

bpaepke - maybe we can meet for a cocktail one evening during Thanksgiving week! There will be three of us, me and hubby and our 12-year-old daughter. She can't wait to go back to stringray city or horseback riding on the beach in the morning. Me, I'm kickin' back and relaxing at the pool!

I have not heard anything to the contrary so I'm assuming Grand Caymanian opened as planned and all is well.

Anyone actually seen it open yet?

BTW - to connect the dots - I'm Sara's Hubby Very Happy

Yes, the Grand Caymanian is open. Very Happy

There was a press release about it in the Compass a few days ago. It looks like they made a few improvements to the property.

Thanks Joe

Sounds like they are opening in stages - which seems to be SOP for most of the resorts. Get open what you can and hurry up on the rest.

I have not seen any negatives posted about reconstruction causing bad experiences but it is a concern. As long as the pool and restaurant are open I don't plan on being able to hear anything from the beach anyway. Very Happy Cool

harold smith - I have been to the property a few times since the storm and did not notice any major structural damage. You are probably right about opening in stages, but they did not mention that in the press release. If they are still working on some of the units, it would be interior work which should not generate much construction noise. At least nothing any worse than my slice on the 12th hole at the Links used to be when it bounced off the metal roofs. Very Happy
