PostPosted: Wed Mar 29, 2006 12:48 am    Post subject: Central SMB Construction - Choosing the Right Accommodations

There has been a little confusion in other topics about the construction noise levels at some of the central Seven Mile Beach condos and I want to paint a perfectly clear picture for our members so they can make their accommodation decisions based on the most current factual information.

I took this photo today standing near the Hyatt. Lacovia and Regal Beach are directly behind me and that's Coralstone Club and Islands Club just entering the picture to the left. Just in front of the first building under construction is Casa Caribe, followed by Caribbean Club, which is under construction and then Meridian. On the other side of Meridian is the next building under construction, followed by Coralstone Club, more construction and then finally the Ritz, the tallest building at the end.

This represents the entire area known as Central Seven Mile Beach. It's where the most lavish upscale properties are located, some of the largest white sand beaches, good to average snorkeling; and - being just outside the congestion zone, it's one of the most convenient locations on the island if you are planning on doing activities and going to most of the best restaurants. This is what makes this section of Seven Mile Beach so popular and it attracts the higher end properties and clientele.

Based on dozens of factors that I have thoroughly explained in other topics, I chose the two most highly valued properties in all of Central SMB and included them in our Hotel Search, with discounts for our members: The Meridian and Villas of the Galleon. I would not have recommended any properties in this area at all if I did not feel they were fully capable of providing an exceptional accommodation for our members. The nearby construction was in full swing while I was evaluating the properties and had the noise levels been any higher at one property or another that would have factored into my evaluation "score". What I found is that no matter where you are in the Central Seven Mile area, the construction noise factor is about the same and the picture depicts exactly that.

In our topic for Meridian I make it clear that there is construction in the vicinity. However, what I did not mention and is probably causing the confusion is that no matter where you stay in the central SMB area you will be subjected to the same level of noise. Anywhere from Regal Beach and Lacovia to well past the Ritz, the noise levels will be substantially the same.

What this means is that if you are interested in the most upscale and lavish accommodations in the most desirable section of Seven Mile Beach, it's likely that you may encounter a little construction noise during at least some part of your vacation. This does not mean you should not stay there. The properties we recommend are extremely well designed and soundproofed and unless you are planning on spending the majority of your vacation in your room with the doors and windows open, you will probably never even notice any noise. If you are extremely noise sensitive and plan on spending a lot of time in your room then this is not the right area for you to stay anyway—Not at the properties we recommend or anywhere else in the central Seven Mile Beach area. There are many wonderful places on the island that are much better suited to people who place a high priority on absolute quiet and solitude and don't care about being close to everything with lavish accommodations.

Selecting an accommodation to match your vacation lifestyle is the single most important decision you will make in ensuring a perfect vacation. The Cayman Islands have something to offer everyone, regardless of your personal preferences or budget and we are here to help you make the right decision. Tell us a little about yourself, how you usually spend your vacation time, what kinds of things you like to do, etc. The more you tell us the better we can make suggestions for accommodations that will ensure your time spent in the Cayman Islands is as enjoyable, affordable and memorable as possible. Very Happy

Thanks, Joe, for the very comprehensive information!! It is amazing the building that is going on. Never having been to GC before, I was just wondering, is the building due to structures that were damaged by Ivan; new construction to add additional rooms; or a combination of the two?

metalkwitu - Caribbean Club was torn down prior to Ivan. Beachcomber is a rebuild and the other one is a new property. There has been some degree of construction going on in this area for as long as I can remember, over 13 years now. Wink
