We have visited SMB once via cruise ship docking -years- ago and didn't like the cruise but fell in LOVE with Cayman! I've spent hours on the computer learning about the island and can't decide between SMB or East. We are leaving our 8-yo at home with Grandma and want to enjoy pretty beaches and tranquility. I'm looking for a condo that is reasonable and has a view of the ocean...does this exist at a low cost?? The lowest one I've found with a distant ocean view is on central SMB at $1450, is this a good deal?? Our travel dates are early May-

If that's for a week----$200 sounds pretty good as Cayman prices go. Did you try the hotel and condo search on CAG at the top of the page? Cayman villas may be able to help you. We rented through them and everything went smoothly. We have always had a 2 BR place right on the beach and have gone qt the height of the season and spent from $350-$500....and that is at the low end of prices for christmas.

We are in the Rum Point area now and drove over to East end the other day. The side of the island is very quiet, but you are very far from everything. At east end, you would at least be close to the little fosters so that you could pick up some things without having to go all the way into Savannah or town. Savannah is at 35 minutes from near rum Point.

Both sides of the island offer different things--but if you like it quiet and away from traffic, east end or the rum point area are great.

Shelly :-)

Check out Grandview. It's brand new, clean, modern and one of the lowest priced. They have it on the hotel search with a discount

--------> top of page right.

Shouldn't be a problem with the price that time of year. Their busy season ends after Easter.

The east is quiet but a really long drive to anything, and lots of traffic most of the time. North side would be better if you don't care about all the restaurants, tours, shopping, other things. Most of everything is on or near the seven mile beach area. The ones on the other end like Discovery Point are just as peaceful as north side, but you can still get to all the other things without such a long drive. Not to mention the cost of gas! It's over $5 a gallon there.

JKman,

Yes, I would agree the Grandview is nice... but, not brand new.

Thanks for the info. We have booked our first stay in Cayman at VoG! This site is filled with so much information! I'm looking at dining and activities now. Is it necessary to book or reserve things prior to arrival in May or just contact the restaurants and businesses once we are there?? I'd like to go to at least one high end restaruant and we're interested in Sting Ray City, visiting Rum Point, snorkeling tours and maybe some jet skiing. However you just never know what you're going to want to do once you're there! We are renting a car for sightseeing for sure, but not sure if we need it for the entire week. Thanks for you tips, it helps greatly and is much appreciated!

We are here at the height of the season--over christmas and new years and we don't make our reservations until we get here and see where we want to go each night. We make them the day of or the day before--but we are early eaters, so they are usually happy to see us. If there wasn't a reservation available one night, there would probably be one for the next night.

We did make advance reservations last year when we went on the biolum kayak tour as they only have it a limited number of nights. We also made advance reservations for BFM, but the night we were there it was not very crowded.

the one thing that I usually make way in advance are our airline and condo reservations---the rest we mostly play by ear----but we come here every year so are a little laid back about it.

I'm sure everything will work out for you

Shelly :-)

Hi Barb,

I have a friend who stays at VoG every year. (In fact, I think he's there now, the lucky bum!) His family loves it and he recommends it highly.

Shelly is correct. You can wait until you're on the island to make most plans. We've tried to lay out the whole stay before we get there, and it always makes it seem more hectic and like work when you have a schedule. Wait until you there and settled, and then kind of wing it. Heck, it's vacation, toss the day-planner out the window!

See ya,

ds
