I will be coming to Cayman on June 15th. There will be two couples and children and we were hoping to find a 3 BR with a pool and a good beach. Silver Sands Condos look pretty interesting and sound as if they have reasonable shore diving. Has anyone had any experience with them or have any other suggestions? Thanks, Mark

We also need rec. on Dive instruction for a 13 and 16 year old. Thanks

Silver Sands is an excellent property located on the far northern end of Seven Mile Beach (the end near the Turtle Farm).

For Dive Instruction, please call Eden Rock Divers and tell them I sent you. You will be in the very best of care. Wink

I was planning on staying at The London House in October, but was told it will still be closed for renavations that month.

Has anyone stayed at the Silver Sands? How was it? Likes/Dislikes?

Thanks for your help!

Hi ttomo - Welcome to the forum.

The Silver Sands is a very nice condo with quite a few amenities. They are on the far west end of Seven Mile Beach, so you would need a car. They have a large pool and white sand beach with average snorkeling.

Hi

We stayed at Silver Sands unit #36 April 30 to May 7 2005 (Post Ivan). They were one of the only Condo's on 7MB that were not badly damaged and accepting reservations in January of 2005.

The beach is beautiful although the coral under the water is hard to walk on. The pool is on the beach not far from the water's edge.

All grounds were well kept and Gwenda who runs the place was very accomodating. #36 is in the right hand building (as viewed from the beach) and was very clean and had everything necessary for our family.

I would go back in a heartbeat !

Cheers

Woody

Hi Woody,

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay in Grand Cayman but need to point out that you should never being walking on or touching any coral! Coral are very delicate living creatures and every disturbance sets back their growth substantially.

Hopefully you were referring to the rock or ironshore that is usually found near where the beach recedes into the water.

Have a Great Day!!!

Hello Captain,

I was referring to the dead coral and rocks which seems to pile up in the waters in front of Silver Sands. Some of the best beach and water on 7MB seems to be in front of the Public Beach up near West Bay (just South of Silver Sands). There is nice soft sand under the water there.

My family and I are all divers. We qualified in Cayman under the tutelidge of a native son. We have been well instructed on the need to respect and not injure the living reef by touching or stepping on it.

We love Cayman above and below and look forward to our next visit in April.

Cheers

Woody

Those rocks are known as ironshore, ancient limestone deposits.

Is the area beach and water sandy or corally in front of Silver Sands Condo?

Hi Cammie,

The sand on the beach in front of Silver Sands is powdery soft like most of Seven Mile Beach. The dead coral and rocks are what is under the water that is difficult to walk on in bare feet. I would suggest water shoes. Once you move out off the beach edge the bottom gets sandy again.

Cheers

Silver Sands is great. We've been to the Caymans many times, and never stayed at the same place twice . . . until this time. We stayed at Silver Sands in 2006 and will be going back there this April. Nice condos, great pool, excellent beach, good amenities, good price, and on the quiet end of 7 Mile Beach.
