We get quite a few posts from new visitors who are not sure whether to stay at a condo or a resort. Please vote for the one you prefer and list your reasons why. I think this might be helpful to people in deciding between the two.

Condos are my pick. Whether we are bringing one or both kids we like the extra room and privacy we get with a condo. We are used to vacationing in them now and I think even if my husband and I were to go on a trip sans kids we might still enjoy the condo life. Here are the main reason they work for us:

- We love to have the extra room to spread out and relax in at the end of the day. Especially when the kids were younger, if they were tired and crabby it was a lot easier to keep them separated from fussing if we weren't all crammed into one room together.

- We like having a kitchen. We usually stock it with breakfast fare and snacks and drinks and sandwich fixings and fruit for snorkel/picnic trips. (We usually don't want to get too far from the water mid day and have to find a restaurant for lunch. ) Or if we are just beaching it from the condo for the day, its nice to have it closeby if someone wants to go in for a nap or I could go in and make mac and cheese and cut up fruit for the kids lunch, etc...

- We like having "our own place" on vacation. (We rented a private home once and that was great!) Even if it's only for one or two weeks, it is our little place and not just a hotel room. Though housekeeping policies can vary by location, we always have maid service and fresh linens and towels, so it doesn't really feel like housework either.

Well - that's probably more information Rolling Eyes than you wanted. I know that there are many resorts that are much more than "just a hotel room", I've just stated the reasons for our preference.

Condos are my pick. I like the idea of having a kitchen. I don't cook while on vacation, but we do like to have breakfast in our room (sometimes). We also like the additional room that a condo offers compared to a hotel room.

What about both ? Celine will be most confused now, as I know she will favour The Reef, but we are the only resort in Cayman with all beachfront condo accommodations.... or the other way around, the only condos with full service resort facilities.... Smile

Condos for sure! We love all the space and having the kitchen. We always eat a simple breakfast in and then usually an easy lunch and usually go out to eat. Although, sometimes we barbecue at home, which is fun too. Another plus, is that by renting a two bedroom, two bath you can buddy up with another couple, and have a great time and everyone still has their own space.

We have a 2 bedroom 2 bath timeshare, and it comes with lots of extras, such as a couple of ice chests. One big and one small. We use the big one when we go on a real "road trip" somewhere, and we take the small one on the dive boat every day with sandwiches, apples, and water. We feel like homeowners for our short time in Cayman. Lots of freedom!

My family always goes for a condo for all of the same reasons everyone has stated previously. Also, oceanfront is a must (as discussed in a different subject)!!!

I like a high-end condo. Ever since my first one in Scotland I've been spoiled. There are great for traveling with friends, family, etc. Really, I just like the private bedroom and the extra room of a living room.

I think there are hotels or condos and either can be a resort. I like the condo-resort with nice pools. I'm not so much a rent someone else's home type person.

I like a resort. I want to be waited on and have someone bring me breakfast in bed. My wife does not even want to see any appliances when she is on vacation. I like the whole feel of a resort. It makes a vacation more of a vacation.

my family and I always vote for a condo. The above reasons all hold true with us. We also find that it is quieter in the evenings and since oceanfront is a must, it is nice to sleep with the sound of the ocean in the background, something you CANNOT do if it is noisy from activities, etc.

I always prefer the resort. I like to be pampered on vacation. I don't want anything to do with doing dishes or cooking! :o

Condos for us. We like to make breakfast most days, and pack a lunch for picnicking. The only meals we usually buy are dinner, unless packing a picnic lunch wouldn't be covenient(Like after a morning trip to SRC.)

WE also prefer a separate bedroom.

We're not much into being "pampered". THe only staff I need is the activities director. No room service needed, no massage, just help me find fun stuff to do. Whether resort sponsored or off-site.

kurtis - I can absolutely guarantee you that the best "activity director" you will ever meet on the entire island is the latest issue of Activity Guide Magazine. Very Happy

Actually, Joe,

THis website affords us the opportunity to learn about all the businesses that we will patronize before we actually pick up a couple of copies of the CAG when we arrive. I like to plan ahead, and most of that includes research. This board allows me to research a years worth of vacation experiences by the members. Of course, I will take advantage of the discounts with Soto's, Andy's,etc., but it's more important to get the best vacation experience possible. That's what this website is to me. Plus, I get to meet some really nice people who I hope I will be able to thank someday personally.
