Newoodwarren..... Don't LYAO! Boxing has nothing to do with fisticuffs.... although there might be a few contests caused from holiday drinking. Boxing day is (was?) an old English custom. Here's a snippet from Wikipedia:
"The name derives from the English tradition giving gifts (a "Christmas box") to less fortunate members of society in the days when people worked in rural economies such as estates or hundreds. It later extended to service workers (traditionally laborers, servants, service staff, postal workers and tradespeople) in the United Kingdom."
I personally don't know of any gift-giving on Boxing Day, although there could be organizations or generous folk that do help the less fortunate at this time. I do know that the businesses here take the opportunity to close for the day. Boxing Day, like every other day, is a nice day to be here in Paradise. |
