Can Joe, or any of the Cayman experts say if this nor’wester, will still be casing weather problems by Saturday? We're schuleded to arrive in Grand Cayman Saturday evening. Needles to say, a big old (Im not even sure what a "nor'wester is but is sounds pretty bad!) is not exactly what we were hoping for!!! 
A nor’wester will move into the Cayman area Thursday night, bringing fresh breezes and rough seas along the north and west coasts.
Chief Meteorologist John Tibbetts said a period of varying winds will affect Cayman in advance of the cold front.
“We’ll have winds from the east–southeast shifting to the south, then to the west and northwest,” he said. “Thursday night is when the front is going to get here.”
The nor’wester will bring 15 to 20 knot winds and rough seas of 4 to 6 feet through Saturday night. A small craft advisory will be in effect Friday and Saturday.
The winds will lessen to 10 to 15 knots from the northeast on Sunday, when the seas will become moderate at 3 to 5 feet.
The weather system will also bring cooler weather, with highs through Sunday only expected to reach 80 degrees and minimum temperatures as low as 72 degrees.
“The think about cold fronts is they bring clouds, which keep the temperatures down, and they bring cold air,” said Mr. Tibbetts. “But what most people feel during cold fronts is the wind chill.”
Although there is a chance of showers through the weekend, Mr. Tibbetts said he didn’t expect a lot of rainfall with the system.
“The models are in pretty good agreement that we’ll get about a half–inch of rain,” he said.
The fall has already brought several cold fronts to the Cayman area, which is typical for the season.
“These are what we normally call Christmas breezes,” Mr. Tibbetts said. “It would be nice to get one nearer to Christmas though.” |
