From Caymanian Compass:

Golfers furious at SafeHaven sale

Cayman's only 18hole public golf course, The Links at SafeHaven, has been controversially sold to Ritz Carlton Hotel developer Michael Ryan who has not given a clear indication if members will be able to use it in the future.

It is such a beautiful course. I do hope that current members will receive golf priv's there. Jon played the course in the past and said it was great. Sad news for visitors on the island!

Hi Kim ? It looks like only Ritz guests will have access to the course. The article said they are sending out notices of membership termination to all members. We have not received ours yet but I will post it when it arrives.

Unfortunate news about SafeHaven being gobbled up by the Ritz. As an avid golfer I can tell you that on my first trip to Cayman 7 years ago I lugged my golf clubs with me only to let them go unused, taking up space in the condo for two weeks while I became addicted to diving and snorkeling the reefs of Grand Cayman. I've returned to Grand Cayman 8 times since then and still have not given up any underwater, or beach time for golf. Fact of the matter is, I golf plenty while I'm at home in the midwest but I don't get too many opportunities to dive/snorkel pristine reefs and walk white-powder sand beaches. kptoys - if your DH is anything like me he won't miss the golf too much once he gets his feet in the warm Caribbean Sea!

Enjoy your trip.

I'm going to GCI today and didn't bother to bring clubs because as far as I know the Links isn't open to the public. Is the Sunrise driving range any good?

Never heard of sunrise. The course at the Hyatt is open to the public. Lots of water, great course.
