Hi,

To my surprise, Grand Cayman is online now....

Have you seen it?

Now everybody, show me where you live...

For example:

The coordinates of my house in salzburg are: 47*46?56.24 N / 12*56?52.70 E

Check it out and have fun Wink

I tried to google earth the Caymans back in October...How great is this.

I always check out our property here in NJ, but being we live in gated community, it shows the gaurd shack, and our buildings are not even built yet. BouncingLaugh

I googled the satellite today and I can't wait till next May. You could see the waves and the different depths of the ocean. If you looked close you could even see the cars. spin

I Earth Googled Cayman last week and was pleasantly surprised...you can see most of the Island in great detail. I push pinned all the places we are going(that I could find)...the Hyatt, Smith's Cove, The Old House(only because I know it is a stone's throw North of Smith's Cove

), The Turtle Farm, Rum Point, etc..

One question or comment I guess is that this satellite picture looks like it was taken immediately following Ivan or at least right after a big storm. The waves are really big on the West side and the cruise ship port is empty...However, there are 3 cruise ships on the South side of the Island boating people in to shore and there are buses that look like they are buses them over to Georgetown AND there are a ton of buses at the Turtle Farm.

Kinda makes ya go hmmm???

Whenever the seas are rough in the harbor, the cruise ships (possibly limited to 3 or 4) can anchor off the South Side in calmer waters. Then they get tendered in from there and buses take the passengers into town. Eats up a little bit more of the day, but at least they don't have to miss the island altogether.

It does happen every once in awhile, especially in the winter when Nor'westers are a possibility.

I'm not entirely sure when the Nor'wester season is.....I think it's January and February....but the good thing about Grand Cayman (actually, one of MANY good things!) is that no matter how wavy the seas might get, there is almost always a lea side of the island where the water is calmer. So, as long as you have a car, you can just drive to the south side or wherever and still go snorkeling.

I've been going to the Caymans every year since 1984, always in mid February to early March. I've been there through many Nor'westers, but you know what! It just doesn't matter......it's a wonderful place to vacation, no matter what the weather! I've also been there many times when the weather was perfect without a drop of rain for every single day. You just never know!

I wish you perfect weather for your trip! Sounds like you're getting really excited!!

Excited?..naw...how can you tell? A honeymoon after 16 years of marriage...not to mention it is in paradise. More importantly, it is a scouting trip to come back with the family. Got to think long term here.

My apt:

19?20'13.08"N

81?22'51.14"W

I too was pleasantly surprised a few months back to see that they had upgraded the images of GCM to higher-res ones.

It was taken after Ivan, probably not too long ago as the Ritz-Carlton is finished (or at least their pool is finished and filled and clean) and yeah, it must have been windy that day, judging by everything that's been pointed out. The wind also kept the clouds away, which is probably how we ended up with good photos that day Smile

The images are not that new. There are many buildings which have now been completed or are close to completion that were just lots in the images. I hope they update it soon --

From the condition of the North Pointe rebuild, I think the latest shots were in late 2005.
