From Caymanian Compass:

Obituary: Daniel Tibbetts remembered

Daniel E. Tibbetts, 18 December, 1953 ? 23 June, 2006

The Cayman Islands is mourning the passing of one of its well known entrepreneurs, Daniel (Danny) E. Tibbetts, who passed away suddenly in Little Cayman on Friday 23 June, 2006, at the age of 52.

Mr. Tibbetts was born and raised in St Petersburg, Florida, but had strong ties to the Cayman Islands ? the land of his father Linton Tibbetts.

He continued the family tradition of developing business here, especially on the Sister Islands.

After graduating from Lakewood High School and Stetson University in Deland Florida, Mr. Tibbett?s entrepreneurial spirit materialized in various business ventures locally and in Florida.

His business developments included the Little Cayman Beach Resort, Conch Club Condominiums and The Club Condominiums, Reef Divers I and Reef divers II.

He was a stockholder in the state?of?the?art business continuity and data storage company, Brac Informatics Centre, served on the Board of Directors of Cayman Brac Power and Light Company and was formerly a board member of the Sister Islands Tourism Association.

In 2001, Mr. Tibbetts purchased Bob Soto?s Diving in Grand Cayman. Unfortunately, this became one of the many casualties of Hurricane Ivan.

His ventures in St Petersburg included Reef FantaSeas travel agency. He was also an active partner in family holding companies Tibbetts Holdings and Tibbetts International and a stockholder of the family owned Cox Lumber until its recent acquisition by Home Depot.

Mr. Tibbetts is survived by his parents, Linton and Polly Tibbetts; son Michael Tibbetts; daughters Emily and Jessica Tibbetts; sister Mary Brandes; twin sister Donna Hooker; and six nieces and nephews.

The funeral for the late Daniel Tibbetts will take place at the Starkey Road Baptist Church in Seminole, Florida, on Wednesday 28 June, starting at 11am and will be presided over by the Rev Jerry Lancaster and the Rev Dan Shroy.

Internment will follow at the Memorial Park Cemetery in St Petersburg Florida.

A memorial service will take place at First Baptist Church in Grand Cayman on Saturday, 1 July, starting at 1pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to The Pines Retirement Home (PO Box 1140 GT, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands), or Kirkconnell Community Care Centre (PO Box 145 SPO, Cayman Brac, Cayman Islands).

I was deeply saddened when I heard this last week. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. His family and he have done many good things for the Cayman Islands.
