From Cayman Net News:

Carnival Cruises to visit Cayman year-round

Beginning in November, Carnival Cruise Lines will increase its cruise ship calls to the Cayman Islands with the year-round visits of Carnival Liberty, its Florida office announced recently.

Carnival Cruise Lines said its Carnival Liberty ship would be deployed from Port Everglades on six and eight-day Caribbean cruises beginning in November 2006.

According to the company, ?It is the only programme of its kind from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.?

Carnival President and CEO, Bob Dickinson, said the extension was brought on by huge successes.

?The Carnival Liberty?s six and eight-day cruises from Fort Lauderdale have been a huge success and consumers will now have even more opportunities to sail on this spectacular ship and enjoy these unique cruise itineraries,? he said.

Carnival Liberty, which currently operates seasonal six and eight-day voyages from Fort Lauderdale and 12-day European cruises from Rome, launches year-round service from the US port on 19 November.

On its year-round programme, six-day cruises departing Sundays visit the Bahamas, Grand Cayman and Costa Maya, while eight-day voyages departing Saturdays alternate to the eastern and western Caribbean.

Carrying 3,700 passengers to George Town every two weeks, Carnival Liberty is one of six Carnival Cruise Lines? ?fun ships? visiting the Island regularly.

Carnival Conquest and Carnival Victory make George Town, the Island?s capital, their port of call on Thursdays with 3,700 and 3,360 passengers, respectively.

Also visiting the Island on Tuesdays are Carnival Miracle (2,680 passengers) and Carnival Valor (3,700 passengers), while Carnival Triumph (3,360) partners Carnival Liberty on Wednesdays.

Eight-day eastern Caribbean voyages feature five ports: San Juan, Puerto Rico; St. Thomas/St. John, USVI; Antigua, Lesser Antilles; Tortola/Virgin Gorda, B.V.I.; and Nassau, the Bahamas.

Western Caribbean cruises include Limon, Costa Rica; Colon, Panama and Costa Maya, Mexico.

Carnival Cruise Lines owns and operates 22 cruise ships and is a member of the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) ? the umbrella body for most of the region?s cruise companies.

Despite a 9,200 cruise tourists per day cap placed by the authorities here, the Island has been attracting about 1.7 million passengers yearly with three new cruises booked to arrive here within two years.

Ships from Holland America, Carnival Cruise Lines and Royal Caribbean will converge on the George Town Harbour from next year, according to officials at the Cayman Islands Port Authority.

Tourism Minister, Hon. Charles Clifford, who has responsibility for ports, said the Island would develop the harbour into a berthing facility despite the commissioning of its third dock on the site.

With the growing demand, the Government is going full steam ahead with plans to spread the cruise tourism load to the eastern districts of North Side, East End and Bodden Town.

Mr Clifford said the Go East Initiative aims to create economic activity and sustainable use of that part of the Island, which is rarely visited by cruisers.

I don't think I'd ever visit Grand Cayman on a cruise ship again....because when it came time to get back in the tender line, I'd run the other direction!!!! I've told my hubby that...once I am off the ship and on GC, don't count on me getting back on the ship...lol

Interesting that the article says there's a 9,200 tourist cap per day. That can't be right with the number of ships that are coming into port each day. There were nine ships in port on two different days while we were there. However, it didn't really bother us...we stayed away from George Town until it thinned out a bit. Smile
