Every year since 1999, we have taken a trip to Grand Cayman, but our favorite hotel, the Marriott, was not quite ready for us this time year, so we headed off to Cancun. We had a great time. Not better than Grand Cayman and definitely not worse than Grand Cayman. Just different.

The most obvious difference is the amount of, umm, nightlife in Cancun versus Grand Cayman. As tourists (in our mid-30's) visiting for the first time, we decided to head to Senor Frog's, a staple of Cancun.

Upon our return I wanted to learn more about the company (we also at at Carlos n Charlie's, one of their other places) and learned on their website that a Senor Frog's is slated to open in Georgetown during the Summer of 2005.

Does anybody know about this? This will give our trips to Grand Cayman an added boost...an alternative to Lone Star for us.

I searched the forums and found nothing. Thanks in advance!

There is a good chance that there will be a Senior Frogs on Grand Cayman in the near future. Details are not yet available, however I will post them when they are.

In the mean time there are many wonderful night spots besides Lone Star. Pick up a copy of Activity Guide as soon as you arrive and check out the Nightlife section. Wink You will not only find all the best night time activities, but also many discounts and coupons.

aah Senor Frog's, just what is needed in GeorgeTown

last week was far too boring without any spring break staples

I really missed there not being an establishment where I could drink into oblivion from tequila shots poured into my significant other's navel.

party on

Thanks for the replies.

I think the "spring break" nature of Senor Frogs in Cancun is definitely driven in large part by the clientele, especially in Cancun. Our experience in Grand Cayman does not lead us to believe that body shots and young women blowing whistles to convince drunken patrons to buy overpriced, watered down shots would go over particularly well with the potential patronage.

As we are in our mid-30's, the aspect of Senor Frogs that would appeal to us would be:

1) the opportunity to stay up past midnight, if we so desired

2) the opportunity to lipsync cheesy tunes from the 70's, 80's & 90's, if we so desire

3) the opportunity to not have to spend $5 on a beer or two, should we so desire

I don't think Senor Frogs would change the higher-class atmosphere of Grand Cayman that we have come to enjoy, rather add another nightlife alternative beyond dance clubs. (I'm 6'5" tall and hate dancing...it's simply not an option! Laughing )

From my research into the parent company of Senor Frogs, they seem to do a good job of tailoring their offerings to their surroundings...and, no, I am not affiliated with them!

Truckfan, You make a good case but I'm curious as to if they may run into problems with a few things:

Cayman has strict rules as to the times when alcohol can be sold (ie. must stop before 12:00 midnight on Saturday nights).

AND

I doubt that they will be able to serve beers so cheap, due to the cost of importing them to Cayman. It would be interesting to see what they would price their alcoholic drinks at to be competitive!

I'm very interested to see what happens. Joe, please keep us informed!

Hmm, good points. I wonder if the locals had the same concerns when the (comparatively tame, but perhaps perceived as otherwise) Hard Rock Cafe moved in?

Granted, it was in Mexico, but the beer we were drinking, and the only beer they offered us, was the local brew, Dos Equis. Maybe they would cut a deal with Stingray and avoid the cost of importing and charging so much for the crappy "imported" stuff like Miller Lite. Cheers

Truckfan, That is a great idea about Stingray - I wonder if something like that would work?!?! Stingray is a pretty good beer and it would boost their sales I'm sure.

You know, I don't know what the locals thought about the Hard Rock. It would be nice to know though...I know when we visit, we usually prefer a more local place (that isn't available at home). I've been to the Hard Rock once for a drink before our Jolly Roger cruise.

I guess we'll have to wait and see if Joe hears more about it...

Someone just put up a big banner on the building that will be the home of Senior Frogs. It is located in town across the street from where the old Casanovas used to be. They are not open yet but from what I could telll it looks like it will not be too much longer.

Parking will be difficult or impossible during the day and their drink prices and operating hours will not be any different than any other bar on the island. Aparantly, they are targeting cruise ship passengers.

I already have one place like that (Hard Rock Cafe) who I recommend because they have a terrific staff, great food, lots of fun events and they managed to capture a Caribbean flavor and incorporate it into their atmosphere and menu. They have plenty of free parking and you will find a discount for them in the magazine. However, one place like that is enough in my opinion so you will probably not find any coupons or discounts for Senior Frogs in Activity Guide any time soon.

Seems silly to open one in Cayman. Cayman needs to keep it's own identity not borrow one from Mexico. How about something along the same lines as SF but with Cayman's national symbol.....the Turtle.

Just a though

Cheers,

digz
