I'm a parent taking my sixteen year old daughter and her friend to the Cayman Islands. I realize the drinking age in the Cayman Islands in 18 years old. How hard is it to get into clubs if you are under 18 years of age? What clubs specifically are more lenient that probably won't check ID? Thanks!

I was there in February and my daughter had just turned 18. Most of the restaurants we went to asked for ID if she ordered a drink.

Didn't go to any clubs so can't answer that one for you. One restaurant wouldn't let us sit at the bar as they thought she was about 16. Once I explained that she was 18 shwe were allowed.

Does your daughter and her friend look like they are 16? or do they older?

My daughter looks very young so that added to the problem.

Senor Frogs wouldn't even let her into the premises on the Friday evening until they checked her ID.

Maybe someone can give you info on the club scene.

Good luck

jriner0821,

As a mother of a 16 year old daughter, I read your post several times. I just couldn't believe a parent was trying to find the clubs that would illegally let their child in!

Then my parental radar kicked in. Could you perhaps be the 16 year old daughter trying to find the clubs that won't check your ID?

Me thinks you are busted. spin

The drinking age is 18 and is strictly inforced. If it is nighttime and they serve alcohol you can pretty much bet they will be carding people. I would recommend staying away from nightclubs with 16 year old girls.

You would be better off going to the Royal Palms or the Stinger's Luau for dancing, if dancing & socializing is what they wanted to go for.

Keep in mind that they do have people monitoring underage drinking. When my husband was younger and he was at the good old Holiday Inn a kid he was with had someone buy him an alcoholic drink. As soon as the guy handed it off to him a security guard came and took it away and escorted him & the guy who bought it out.

Lynne,

Methinks you're right!

I had the same initial shock that you had, but had not made the leap to your conclusion. And I thought I was the professional sleuth! Of course, I haven't had the benefit of raising a 16 yr old daughter!

Funny,

When I read it I thought that it was a proactive question. Know what places to avoid or watch closely. Guess I'm just too trusting.

Our daughters both look way older than they are and rarely get carded when they are with us. We make sure to inform the staff anywhere we go that they are under 18. (That had better be a virgin daiquiri young lady!!!)

They are not allowed to go anywhere near a "club" without us and we don't go to "clubs".
