More Lighthouse Information, Photos and Specials: The Lighthouse restaurant in Grand Cayman features an extensive and creative menu consisting of local seafood caught daily and Northern Italian cuisine prepared by a team of award-winning chefs. The genius behind this masterpiece of a monument to what fine ocean front dining is all about is Captain G. Giuseppe Gatta, descendant of Baron Von Gatta, was born in Caravaggio, Italy, infamous for the Painter Michelangelo Merisi as well as its famous cuisine. Captain G. was born with cooking in his blood. After graduating from the Hotel College in San Pellegrino Terme in Italy, he completed a one year apprentice at the famous five star Hotel Excelsior in Lugano, Switzerland, and then set sail for high adventure on the seas with the S. S. Oceanic and M. N. Doric cruising the Caribbean for seven years. With sun and sea, he fell in love with the indomitable and beautiful Susanna. Giving up his sea legs, he went into the Princess Hotel on Bermuda where ultimately his fame as a restaurateur led to a reward in the shape of an opportunity to manage his own restaurant on Grand Cayman. With his new bride by his side he landed in the Cayman Islands and took charge of the finest restaurant on the island at that time. But within Giuseppe there has always been a quest for bigger and tougher challenges. These came in the guise of new restaurants which he and his partner started. In time, they spied the Lighthouse Restaurant and saw clearly the potential for an exquisite dining opportunity on the shores of Breakers in one of the most pristine areas of Grand Cayman. The challenge was immense and every facet of the restaurant was discussed as the theme for an overall effect evolved. A love affair with the sea and ocean liners transcended into the nautical theme for the restaurant menu, and the staff uniforms lend a touch of 1930's charm and sophistication.
Giuseppe's personal life is one involving food and wine in equal measure. Food is the source of life for Giuseppe and he takes great delight in the production and presentation of beautiful meals and new dishes to tempt the palate. With such exalted taste buds—that where prepared for greatness since birth in Italy, where wine is the second of all consuming passions. The Lighthouse restaurant in Grand Cayman has been famous for its spectacular diverse wine selection for decades. Creating a formidable cellar from some of the best vineyards around the world has taken many, many years but the achievement resulted in a stock comprised of over 150 wines from Italy, France, Australia and California. The Port Room—which, masqueraded as the wine cellar seats 14 people in comfort for the ultimate of dining experiences. If you are planning an important event such as a wedding or corporate meeting with up to 14 people, the Lighthouse Port Room would make a sensational venue. In 1997, Giuseppe was presented with the highly coveted "Award of Excellence" from Wine Spectator - Only 2600 restaurants in the entire world have been so distinguished. The Port Room is available for private functions, and offers the largest selection of wine, vintage ports and grappa’s anywhere in the entire Cayman Islands. In addition to their Port Room, seating options at Lighthouse restaurant in Grand Cayman include a screened ocean front patio and their prestigious air conditioned Chart Room with a magical ocean view. The Lighthouse has a lovely selection of nautical theme and other gifts and souvenirs in their gift section. Even fine china and dinnerware are available. To compliment his love of fine dining, Giuseppe is the president of renowned international gourmet organization La Chaine des Rotisseurs and enjoys organizing the finest gourmet functions held on the Island at participating restaurants.
